Parent Resource Guide...anything and everything you ever wanted, or needed to know about Room 207.
2017/2018 school year
School Hours: Monday-Friday 7:50-3:15
*NOTE: Any students not picked up on time can be found in emergency latch key where there is a charge for services. Please be prompt when picking up your child.
Please consult school calendar for half days, days off and vacations
* To pick your child up early you must report to the office and sign your child out. The office will notify the classroom teacher and your child will be sent to the office. This applies even when the class is outside for recess, in a specials’ class, the day of a party, or at an assembly etc.
* You are asked NOT to sign your child out between 2:30 and 3:14, unless it is an extreme emergency. Early sign outs are very disruptive to our class’ end of the day procedures.
Latchkey is available for before and after school care. You MUST register ahead of time for this service. Please contact the office for more information.
Arrival/Dismissal-Students may enter the building through the elementary doors near kdg. Classes. Parents, or an older sibling (grades 4+), MUST pick their child up at the classroom at the end of the day (at 3:15). Students not picked up promptly will be taken to latch key where appropriate fees will incur.
Please make an extra effort to arrive to school on time daily. Arriving even a few minutes late means your child will be missing out on valuable learning time. Keep in mind some work simply cannot be made up and will be reflected grade wise.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
School Supplies will be collected the first day of school and distributed as community supplies, with a few exceptions. Please only label your child’s lunchbox and backpack as the rest of the supplies may be dispersed as needed.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Trillium Academy Dress Code Info:
There may have been some changes to the uniform policy this school year. Please visit the school website or contact the office for specifics. Students are expected to be in full uniform from the first day of school and forward. Fridays students may participate in Spirit Days and may wear any Trillium approved shirt and plain jeans.
PLEASE NOTE: Tennis shoes for gym can be left in your child’s cubby if you would like to do so. If not, make sure your child comes dressed in school shoes on their PE day, and has tennis shoes to change in to for gym class. All black tennis shoes may be worn. Please see office for an acceptable pair on display.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lunch is from 10:50-11:15
Students may bring a lunch, or buy a lunch. You must prepay for lunch in advance.
No student lunches will be heated or refrigerated.
If a student forgets their lunch, one can NOT be provided. PLEASE be sure your child has their lunch, or is buying EACH and every morning. A forgotten lunch could mean your child doesn’t eat for the day, and we don’t want that to happen.
There is no snack in the first grade classrooms, so be sure to eat a nutritious breakfast each morning. Breakfast is available at school. See the office for details. This, too, is a prepay system.
NO WATER BOTTLES PLEASE. Our desks are unfortunately slanted and don't line up with our neighbors very well and this leads to spills. We have a drinking fountain right outside the classroom and students are told they can drink freely as long as directions are not being given and tests are not being taken. They simply need to ask to get a drink. :)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Planners are an excellent way to maintain communication between home and school. Parents are REQUIRED to read the daily message from their child and to sign/initial the planner nightly indicating they have done so. Your child’s HW and daily behavior (color they clipped up or down to at the end of the day) can be found in the student planner.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Specials Classes:
Monday- STEM/Technology
Tuesday – Drama
Wednesday- Physical Education (gym shoes can be kept in the classroom cubbies for convenience sake). PLEASE NOTE: Students must be in school shoes for the duration of the day on Wednesday and change for P.E.)
Thursday – Music
Friday-Art
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
All birthday parties are at the end of the day. If you bring in a treat you must provide napkins, utensils, plates and cups if desired. PLEASE SEE ME BEFORE HAND to make arrangements, to ensure you have an accurate account of the number of students, and so we are able to clear some time from the schedule to celebrate. Please DO NOT bring in treats without advanced notification.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Holidays- We celebrate some holidays with crafts +/or a party. I will send home a list of supplies needed prior to each party to allow families to sign up to help out. If your child does not celebrate birthdays or holidays please let me know. We want to respect each child and family, and alternate assignments or arrangements will be made.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Behavior Policy-
Class dojo is being used this year at the elementary level and will be used in all classrooms including specials' classes. More information will be provided here on the site so stay tuned. BE SURE YOU SIGN UP ASAP to stay in the loop.
Our behavior policy is school wide. Each student has a clothes pin with their name on it that serves as a visual reminder of how their day is going. Students start off on green (Ready to learn) and have the opportunity throughout the day to either move their clip up for positive choices or to move their clip down for poor choices. Clips may be moved up and down throughout the day, so even if your child moves their clip down there is the opportunity to make better choices and move back up.
Purple- EXTRAORDINARY DAY
Turquoise- PHENOMENAL CHOICES
Lt. Blue- GREAT WORK
Green- READ TO LEARN
Yellow- Warning and/or Time to think sheet
Orange- Time off recess and/or Think time in a buddy classroom
Red- PCF (Parent contact form). No recess.
Please note that both the time to think sheets and the parent contact form will be sent home for parental review and require a parent signature before being returned the following day.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Homework- will consist of any class work not completed in class. It is due the FOLLOWING day.
NOTE: ALL HW MUST BE SIGNED OR INITIALED BY A PARENT/GUARDIAN INDICATING COMPLETION AND A CHECK FOR NEATNESS AND ACCURACY FOR CREDIT TO BE GIVEN.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Reading Logs- Once implemented your child will be required to read a minimum amount of time each week. Reading logs are assigned Monday and are due the following Monday. This is to allow your child time to read over the weekend when there is more free time. I strongly encourage you to have your child read aloud to you. It is also perfectly fine for you to incorporate the time spent as you read aloud to your child as well. Reading requirements: Average of 10min./day x 5 days or 50 min./week. Remember these are minimum requirements, reading more is not only acceptable, but wonderful!
*Reading logs can be submitted online (see the tool bar on the left), or can be recorded on any sheet of paper. See the website or Ms. Taylor for required information if you plan to submit your reading log on paper.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Friday Folders- Folders will be sent home on Fridays that contain your child’s work for the week, important notes and progress reports (see below). PLEASE be sure the folders are emptied of important notes and returned on Monday morning. The emptying and returning of Friday folders is considered your child's homework assignment for the weekend and may result in a loss of recess if not completed.
PLEASE NOTE: Once homework begins it is strong suggested that you place it in the Friday folder since these items are all collected and checked in Monday morning.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Progress Reports-will not begin right away, however; once they do start they’ll be sent home periodically school wide. Progress reports indicate areas of concern in all academic areas. They can be found in your child’s Friday folder and MUST be signed and returned, along with the Friday folder.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Class “Pet”-Be on the look out for our class “pet” to visit your home this year. Our stuffed friend will come and stay with you over the weekend and your child will be asked to record their adventures before its return on Monday. Further details will be sent home at a later date.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
REMEMBER Email, Class Dojo, or the class website , are the quickest, easiest ways to contact me. Please be mindful that an immediate response is not always possible. Placing a phone call during the school day will go directly to voicemail and not to the classroom, so disruptions in the learning environment are minimized. If you need to meet to with me regarding a concern, please schedule an appointment ahead of time. I ask that you are respectful of the fact that I am not always available immediately following school, and thank you for your cooperation and understanding in this area.
I am looking forward to a great year and thank you for the opportunity of working along side you and your child this year.
