Welcome to the Announcements Page.
This is a great place to start whenever visiting our website as this is where you will find updates and news that are important as they relate to not only our classroom, but our school as well. Please take a few minutes to look around and get a feel for the site. Be sure to check out the Parent Resource Guide (button below/ltab on the left) and read it carefully. It should answer any and all questions you may have. All families are asked to sign off after reading the guide. This can be done on the page for the Resource guide itself.

You always want to set your child up for success—in school and in life—but knowing the best way to help isn’t always easy.
There are many reasons why students miss school when they don’t have to—struggling in the classroom, having trouble with bullies, or dealing with challenges at home. But when your child misses school for any reason, it becomes harder for them to succeed in school.
As a parent, you can identify the reasons why your child is absent from school and help them to overcome these challenges. Start here to find resources that can help you set your child up for long-term success by making sure they are in school every day.

Our grading scale
We use the Montessori Grading scale in lower elementary. For those who are unfamiliar with it, here is the break down:
M4 Above grade level (consistently) Note this is rare in a core academic area (math, reading, science, social studies) as an overall grade, although you may find individual assignments on which your child has received an M4.
M3 is at grade level expectation. This is the grade you want, and will most often see on assignments and as a final grade. If your child receives full credit on an assignment (100%) they will receive an M3.
M2 is progressing toward grade level expectation.
(Ideally, M2s and M3s are what you would want to see.)
M1 is limited progress towards grade level expectations and indicates a struggle, or area of concern.

important word about spelling/reading groups...
Reading groups and spelling groups can and will change throughout the year. They are based on performance in reading groups, more so than spelling test results. Students may move up, or down, a group, and this is completely normal and to be expected. Most changes take place during testing periods (reading levels are assessed 3 times a year (beginning, middle and end), but can also be made if a child is struggling where they are currently placed. If a change is made to your child's spelling/reading group I will let you know so you can be sure you are studying the correct words for Friday's tests. :)

Check out the members of our shoe crew by visiting our shoe crew tab on the left! These are the students who can tie their shoes without assistance, and are happy to lend a friend a hand tying theirs if they need it. If your child would like to be featured in the shoe crew visit the resources on the left and practice, practice, practice.
