Dear Students and Families of Room 207,
Welcome to first grade! I hope that you had a fun, and enjoyable, summer and that you are ready to jump right in to our learning adventure that will begin shortly! I’d like to take this opportunity to tell you a little about myself: I have wanted to be a teacher for as long as I can remember. Some of my fondest childhood memories include playing school with all of the neighborhood kids during the summer. I graduated from Belleville High and went on to attend the University of Michigan, where I received my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. Several years ago, I earned my Master's degree from Michigan State. I am certified to teach grades K-8 including Language Arts and Social Studies in Middle School.
My first year at Trillium Academy was 14 years ago. That year I taught a multi-age classroom with 8 first grade students, 8 second grade students and 8 third grade students! The following year my class was switched to a 1st and 2nd grade split, which is how it remained until a few years ago when I started teaching a straight first grade. I have taught other grades and subjects throughout my years in another district, and as a substitute and a long term sub, but there is nothing quite like 1st grade!
I am the mom of an amazing son, who is 21 years old. Four years ago I married my best friend in a small waterfront ceremony followed by a chartered yacht reception where we and our guests were able to see the Motown City-Scape from the Detroit River. It was magnificent! I am a vegetarian with vegan tendencies and I have a passion for animals, animal rights and rescue. I would love to have a house full of “fur-iends,” but we currently only have 3 pets: a long-haired calico/Maine Coon named Mia, a small tuxedo cat named Momma Cat, and a small terrier mix named Marty. Recently our big ol' Mastiff named Addie, passed away. All of our pets are rescue animals, except for Momma Cat, who was taken in as a stray. In my spare time I love spending time with my family and raising awareness for various causes and passions, and I also enjoy drawing, painting, writing, computers, action sports, and music. I can’t wait to meet each one of you, and get to know you better throughout the course of the upcoming school year.
I am excited about our learning adventure and I hope that you are, too! It’s going to be a great year!
Smiles,
Ms. Taylor
